THE 30TH anniversary of the founding of Salmon Poetry will be marked at the Over The Edge reading in the Galway City Library on Thursday October 27 at 6.30pm.
The readers will be Kevin Simmonds, Luke Morgan, and Salmon co-founder Jessie Lendennie. Salmon was established in Galway city in 1981 with the publication of The Salmon International Literary Journal.
In 1985 Salmon began publishing poetry and has since has published more than 300 volumes of poetry and non-fiction, becoming one of the most prolific and publishers in Ireland. The company is now based in County Clare.
Salmon co-founder and managing director Jessie Lendennie, who is originally from Arkansas and who settled in Ireland in 1981, is currently working on a memoir, To Dance Beneath the Diamond Sky. Jessie’s second collection of poetry Walking Here is published by Salmon.
Kevin Simmonds is a San Francisco-based writer, musician, and filmmaker. His work includes Feti(sh )ame, a genre-defying short film based on his poetry, and Mad for Meat, his debut poetry collection, published by Salmon.
Galway poet Luke Morgan has had work published in Crannóg, ROPES 2011, and Poetry Ireland Review.
Salmon will also host a 30th anniversary party/reading in Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop on Friday October 28 at 6.30pm with Gerry Hanberry, Mary Mullen and Pete Mullineaux, Helene Cardona, John Fitzgerald, and Bertha Rogers.
