The Athenry Chamber of Commerce is launching an Athenry Gift Voucher to support its Buy Local campaign.
Vouchers may be redeemed in any local participating business. Almost all of the businesses in the Athenry area are participating in the promotion.
The vouchers will be launched on Friday October 21 at 4pm at Athenry Credit Union and will be available for sale from that date at the Athenry Credit Union premises in Old Church Street, during normal business hours.
The vouchers make ideal gifts for Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries and other occasions. They give the holder the flexibility of being able to redeem them in local shops, clothing outlets, restaurants, hotels, cafes, gift shops, pharmacies, supermarkets, public houses, hair & beauty salons and many other businesses.
The vouchers will be marketed as Athenry “One” Vouchers – one voucher, redeemable in one town, in more than one hundred businesses. Vouchers will be available in denominations of €50, €20 and €10.
The decline in general voucher sales in recent years is partly attributable to the concern that businesses might close and a voucher may become worthless. The Athenry “One” voucher is recession proof, in that the holder is not restricted to one particular business.
Employers can give Athenry “One” vouchers annually to staff to the value of €250 tax-free, making them a very attractive Christmas bonus from the point of view of both employees and employers.
The Athenry Chamber understands that Athenry is the first town in County Galway to launch such a promotion. When buying a gift for any occasion, the Chamber are asking people to first consider the Athenry “One” Voucher, and in the process support the local economy, the local community and help maintain employment in the area.
