Art exhibitions in the city

EXHIBITIONS, RANGING from traditional landscapes to experimental installations, can be seen in galleries throughout Galway city this month.

Coastal Waters, an exhibition of new paintings by Liam Jones, is currently showing at The Kenny Gallery, Liosbán Retail Park, Tuam Road, throughout October. The Ballina born artist’s work for this exhibition concentrates on depictions of coastlines and the sea.

Dead Dog Farm by Norwegian artist Magnhild Opdøl is showing at the Galway Arts Centre until October 29.

The works are inspired by the fact that Ms Opdøl’s hometown Sunndalsøra is twinned with Twin Peaks, which led her to explore connections between real life experience and the TV series Twin Peaks through drawing, sculpture, taxidermy, photography, and video.

Film and photographic works by Naheed Raza will be shown at the 126 Gallery, Queen Street, until October 22. The works are interested in physical, rapid, and automatic gestures and deal with themes of weaving, spinning, and drawing. Gallery hours are Wednesdays to Saturdays from 1pm to 6pm.

Sarah Inger’s show, featuring staged tableaux, collage, and installations, is running at the Ard Bia Nimmo’s at the Spanish Arch.

Her work is interested in the tales we tell ourselves, those told to us from childhood, and those we make up as we go along, and tales supposed to explain how we got from there to here, but which remain fictional.

Admission to all the exhibitions is free.
