The Galway City Council this week began essential upgrading works to the city’s water supply network. The works are expected to last for 12 months.
The works are part of the council’s Water Conservation Project and involve the installation of new infrastructure to the existing network.
Once completed, the improved system will enable the council to monitor water usage throughout the distribution network, improve reaction time to extreme weather events, and reduce water losses through improved leak detection and repair techniques.
However the works will result in a number of water outages throughout the entire city during the course of the project.
City Hall said every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum and advance warning of the planned water outages will be given to local businesses and residents through leaflet drops as well as being advertised on local radio.
