Stars from the West End show Shrek The Musical are helping Stagecoach Theatre School’s search for this year's young heroes who have faced adversity, demonstrated bravery, shown courage, and cared for others.
The Stagecoach Theatre Arts Awards will be presented at a special awards ceremony at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London, the home of Shrek The Musical, on Monday November 28.
Actor Nigel Lindsay, who plays the hero Shrek in the West End production said: "Throughout the years, Stagecoach has been aware of a number of young people who have displayed enormous courage and endurance, ones who have suffered bereavement, family break-up, accidents and illness and who have faced circumstances where they have been required to become carers themselves.
"We all know Shrek's a hero, but if anyone out there from County Galway can think of someone special who they think is a young hero and who deserves recognition, and who would be a good role model for other young people, then please think about making a nomination."
John Lucey runs the Stagecoach School in Galway and added: "Stagecoach Theatre Arts Awards winners are the heroes of the next generation and we want to know in the words of Shrek, what's your story?”
Nominations for this year's awards will be accepted for any child aged between four and 18, regardless of whether or not they attend a Stagecoach School.
Awards for this year's young heroes will be presented in the following categories: The Stagecoach Theatre Arts Award for Bravery - recognising young people who have demonstrated courage, The Stagecoach Theatre Arts Good Buddy Award -recognising young people who have proved to be good role models, The Stagecoach Theatre Arts Young Citizen Award - recognising young people who have demonstrated community spirit, innovation and leadership, and The InterAct Award - for outstanding achievement through adversity.
Finalists and their parents, or guardians, as well as those who have made the nominations, will be invited to attend the VIP ceremony at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane and will be invited to see Shrek The Musical after the ceremony.
