The annual Galway Simon poker fundraiser will be held on Saturday October 8 in the Eglinton Casino from 8pm.
The aim of this event is to raise money to support the work of the Galway Simon community which continuously strives to alleviate the problems associated with homelessness in the Galway area.
Last year Simon provided 13,720 nights in shared supported accommodation and it has a very successful tenancy sustainment programme which helps people threatened by homelessness stay in their homes.
The main event at the poker night will be a Texas Hold’em tournament with a prizepool of €4,000. Approximately 100 players will take part with the top 10 finishers getting a share of the money. Finger food will be provided and there will be a bar service available all night.
Players will have a chance to play against Galway’s two greatest poker players as Jude Ainsworth and Fintan Gavin will be taking part. Ainsworth is a former winner of the Irish Poker Championship and has won more than €1m in tournaments. Fintan recently won the UK and Ireland Poker Tour Main Event in Edinburgh and was runner up in the European Poker Tour Barcelona Championship which earned him €900,000.
In previous years, these Simon poker nights have proven to be a great night with everyone having fun, playing some serious poker, and raising money for a fantastic cause.
