Corinthians cruise past Connemara

Corinthians outplayed the Connemara All Blacks on Friday evening in their annual Connacht Senior League game, racking up a 52-5 victory.

The home side got off to a flying start when winger Wayne Williams converted a penalty after the visitors were penalised for tackling in an offside position.

Assisted by the wind, the home side continued to dominate, running for six tries before the break. Number eight Liam Carpenter grabbed two while Kieran Dolan, Brian Dixon, Conor Murphy and Fintan Bealham added to the tally, all of which were converted by Williams.

The All Blacks upped their game after the break with half backs Keogh and Joyce doing their utmost to get their back line moving, but it was their front row of Emmet Farrell and Alan Price who made the hard yards before centre Conor O’Malley grabbed Connemara’s only try.

Connemara maintained the pressure with lock forward Barry Gibbins especially to the fore, but Corinthians dug deep for their captain Fionn Gormley to run in for a final score.

Corinthians’ next Senior League game is against Buccaneers on Saturday at 3pm in Cloonacauneen.
