Galway winners celebrate at national basketball awards

The annual Basketball Ireland National Awards were handed out at a ceremony in the Basketball Arena in Tallaght last Saturday.

Galway was well represented on the honours list at this year’s Basketball Ireland National Awards in Tallagh. Maree’s Liam Conroy won the Male Under 20 Player of the Year for the second year in a row, while Foireann na Gaillimhe’s Ciara Newell scooped the Female Under 20 award.

Claire Rockall of UCC took the Female Collegiate award, and Joe Naughton received a Volunteer of the Year award.

International caps were awarded to the Ireland u-16 teams, just back from the Europeans, and Patrick Lyons of The Bish and Moycullen, and Aileen Crowley of Calasanctius and Maree were among the international players honoured.

The 2011/12 Men’s SuperLeague National Cup draw took place at the National Basketball Arena recently. Moycullen face a daunting task when they travel to last year’s beaten finalists Killester.
