Galway Film Centre events and courses

FOR MANY filmmakers, the journey is just beginning when they have their finished DVDs in their hands. Next step is to get that film out there and into film festivals.

There is a host of festivals to choose from so the whole process can be quite boggling. To help with this process, the Galway Film Centre is running a one day workshop on how to enter a film into the festivals.

The workshop will be led by Adele Smyth, competition manager at Foyle Film Festival, one of the world’s few Oscar boosting festivals. Adele has worked with many organisations such as BAFTA and the Academy of Motion Pictures.

The workshop takes place on Thursday September 22 and the cost is €30/40.

Other upcoming courses include an evening writing class and classes in editing and graphics packages such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

The evening writing class will help participants write a short script which can then be entered into the Short Script Award that the GFC runs with RTÉ. There are two awards of €10,000 to be won in this competition.

For more information contact the GFC’s education officer, Mary Deely, at [email protected] or 091 - 770748. The GFC also hosts film screenings, talks, and seminars. See www.galwayfilmcentre.ie
