Galway City Council staff led the round-up overnight and this morning of nine stray horses across the city.
Galway City Council Housing Staff supported by Community Wardens, An Garda Siochana and staff from Local Authority Services impounded nine horses that had been astray on public lands in the Westside, Headford Road and Ballybane areas of the city.
Stray horses on public lands have been an ongoing problem across the city. Galway City Council wishes to thank members of the public in local areas for reporting the presence of these horses that allowed City Council to follow up .
“We are very happy to have undertaken this operation which takes these horses off public lands. This will allow residents and their families to enjoy these green areas as part of their local amenity without the danger of stray horses,” said Acting Director for Housing & Environment, Frances Mullarkey on Thursday morning. She added, “These operations will continue as necessary into the future.”
