Picturesque Dunguaire Castle is situated on the shores of Galway Bay. The castle takes its name from the ancient fort of Guaire, King of Connaught, who died in 662 AD. The castle was built in 1520 and was first occupied by Guaire’s descendants, the O’Hynes.
Today the restored castle gives an insight into the lifestyle of the people who lived there from 1520 to modern times.
Medieval Banquets are held in the castle from the end of April through to October (reservations necessary ). This is an enchanting evening with delicious food, wine and entertainment. The superb entertainment provided by the Castle entertainer's features extracts from the great Irish literary writers such as Synge, Yeats and Gogarty.
While you enjoy fine food and wine, Dunguaire’s Castle entertainers will inspire you with the profound and the humourous!
