Motoring Mervue now face promotion-chasing Cork

Last Saturday evening at Drom provided a reminder of Mervue United's considerable improvement this season as they demolished Salthill Devon in the first division.

Johnny Glynn's charges were in control from the first whistle and strikes from Peter Dravins, David O'Brien, and Jason Molloy, in addition to two own-goals, reflected their dominance over a Salthill outfit that failed to build on a promising result against fellow strugglers Wexford Youths.

Mervue will be aware that Cork City will be demanding opponents at Fahy's Field tomorrow evening, but Glynn's side have been competitive throughout the campaign. Goalkeeper Ger Hanley, James Casserly, Mark Ludden, Martin Conneely, Pat Hoban, John Mountney, Dravins, and Molloy are all young footballers with potential and Glynn is guiding them impressively at the moment. Having registered 27 points from 21 matches, Mervue have made significant strides since March and trying to frustrate promotion-chasing Cork will be a task they should relish.

Salthill also face one of the teams intent on securing top flight status when they make the short journey south to face an expensively assembled Limerick FC.

The recent capture of Joe Gamble and Denis Behan was a real statement of Limerick's intent and they will expect to outfox Salthill, who dropped a point behind Wexford Youths. With Limerick motoring smoothly, Salthill will need solid displays from Ronan Forde, James Whelan, Brian Geraghty, Eugene Greaney, and teenager Timmy Molloy.--
