Notes for the season

Staff favourites for August

So many products, so little time. Below are some new favourites and old favourites.

While the saying, “Never ask a barber if you need a haircut” may hold true, the same does not apply if you need skincare advice in Brown Thomas. I appeared before Mary on the Lancôme counter last week with tired, spotty, lifeless skin (which had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with lack of sleep, ageing, and a refined sugar overdose ). I was desperate for help but only wanted to buy one product that would perform miracles; she made one suggestion. She told me that Lancôme’s new Visionnaire serum had finally arrived. I was invited to the launch of this product in Dublin a few weeks ago and could not wait to start lashing it on. Yes, I know you are supposed to dab but I like to lash. I knew this was going to be the beginning of a love affair, I always know. Obviously this is the first item on the favourites list. This treatment has sold out in London already and is exclusive to Brown Thomas. You apply it under your night cream, and it repairs, repairs, repairs, diminishing fine lines and sun spots while you sleep. This product stimulates the regeneration process, which slows down with age, and I saw a difference in two days. It also promises to soften scars, and the effects are cumulative.

Also up for favourites this month, under denims, is the Seven skinny bootleg. It has a dark wash so can be dressed up but also can be quite casual due to the boot cut. And let’s be honest, a skinny bootleg is the best of both worlds isn’t it? If Olivia endorses a pair of denims on the denim bar in Brown Thomas, no questions asked, they simply must be bought. She has “the gift” when it comes to matching jeans with people or shoes with an outfit. I mean it’s scary.

Sadie in shoes loves the new Elie Tahari collection just in this month. Very elegant and sophisticated, these are shoes for the beautifully groomed. A pedicure with perfectly moisturised feet will be a must to pull them off, they are works of art in themselves.

Over in accessories, the uber stylish Laura Jayne is loving the just in collection in Pauric by Pauric, in particular the textured Los Angeles bag. Like Mulberry, these bags get better with age. An Irish designer who started out as an architect, his bags are crafted from Italian leather.

Are you looking for an all round exceptional moisturiser? Martina says try Elizabeth Arden’s Ceramide Ultra Lifting Firm Plump Perfect, it has an SPF of 30 as well as maintaining elastin and collagen. As sometimes happens to me, this product was an old favourite, then went off my radar. It is the best in its category. I love the way it sits on the skin.

Thank you to all of those who have emailed in over the last few weeks, and I would love to know what your favourites are at the moment.
