A diverse exhibition of photos and images produced by young people is to open at the Space Invaders Art Gallery, The Cornstore, Galway, today.
The exhibition is the result of a nationwide project undertaken by young people involved with Youth Advocate Programmes Ireland (YAP ), which is an advocacy and support organisation that works in partnership with young people, families, and communities. Each young person who participated was encouraged to create an original image around a series of themes that include: What makes my world go round; community; life in my town; and self portraiture.
The resulting exhibition of insightful and perceptive images reflects the individuality of the young people who contributed to the show and provides a glimpse into how they see themselves and their community. The opening night will be attended by young people, their families, representatives from YAP, and special guests.
Speaking in advance of the exhibition Siobhan O’ Dwyer CEO of YAP Ireland said she was “delighted the young people involved in YAP have the opportunity to showcase their talents. They have gained in confidence and developed new skills, which through this exhibition they are now sharing with other young people, their families, and the wider community”.
When speaking about the upcoming event some of the young photographers spoke about getting involved and what they were looking forward to most.
