The bar provided Irish Times political correspondent with his first keg of Guinness, taught Hector his bartending skills, and was the venue where TG4’s first programme makers thrashed out their ideas over a few pints, and now Club Árus na nGael is preparing to celebrate 25 years next month.
The Irish language pub has provided a home to musicians, singers, artists, actors, writers, the Irish language media, the Irish language and Gaeltacht communities as well as Irish language learners for the past 25 years. A major celebration will take place on Saturday September 10 to commemorate the founding of the club a quarter of a century ago.
Tickets are now available for the event and, despite a marquee being installed for the occasion, ticket numbers are limited and the organisers are advising early purchase as more than 50 tickets have already been sold.
Liam Ó Maonlaí and Ronan Ó Snodaigh will provide the music for the celebration, ensuring top quality entertainment for the night. There will also be numerous other guest musicians as patrons recall their own memories of their nights in the club.
As part of its 25 years celebration Club Árus na nGael has teamed up with the Jack and Jill Foundation and hopes to raise much needed funds for this children’s charity.

Eibhlín Uí Bhairéad and Catherine Ní Ghuairm, two of the organisers, said that they were delighted with the level of interest shown to date and with the support being promised by friends of Club Árus na nGael, old and new.
