Galway artist in running for major British art awards

Galway artist Maeve Curtis has been selected for this year’s prestigious Threadneedle Prize in London, the ‘alternative to the Turner Prize’.

Maeve Curtis is the only Irish artist who has been selected for this year’s prize, which carries a cash prize of more than £40,000.

The Threadneedle Prize is Britain’s leading showcase for painting and sculpture that promotes the practice of representational art yet challenges its language and assumptions.

Artists of all nationalities living in Ireland and/or Britain are eligible to apply and only 52 pieces out of 4,350 submissions were chosen. The 52 works will be exhibited in the Mall Galleries in The Mall in London this September.
