Bail for city man charged with possession of child pornography

A 31-year-old man charged with being in possession of child pornography has been further remanded on his own bail with strict conditions for the service of a book of evidence.

Declan Hegarty with an address given as 29 Cuirt Seoige, Bohermore, appeared in custody before Galway District Court on Monday charged with allegedly being in possession of child pornography, to wit a Dell desktop computer containing five video files, a Freecom classic mobile hard disk drive containing nine video files and a Dell Vostro laptop containing 35 video files and 27 image files at 29 Cuirt Seoige, Bohermore, on May 17 2009, as well as being in possession of child pornography, to wit, a ‘Freecom’ 120GB external hardrive containing eight images and 23 movie files at Mount Kenneth Place, Limerick, on February 20 2008, contrary to Section 6(1 ) of the Child Trafficking and Pronography Act 1998.

The court heard that the accused had been arrested before the morning of the court and charged. Inspector Mick Coppinger told the court that a file in relation to this matter had been prepared and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions who has directed trial by indictment. The inspector then requested that the matter be adjourned to allow time for service of the book of evidence.

Judge Aeneas McCarthy remanded Hegarty on his own bail of €1,000 to appear at Galway District Court again on September 14, 2011. Bail was granted on condition that Hegarty sign on at his local Garda station three times a week, surrender his passport, does not leave the jurisdiction, does not apply for new travel documents, and notifies gardai of any change of address.
