The Kanyu Tree in concert, an outdoor showing of Raiders Of The Lost Ark, and a Family Fun Day will all be part of Galway’s West End Street Party.
The city’s West End area - Dominick Street, Henry Street, Sea Road, Fr Griffin Road - will throw a major street party and family events for Race Week from Thursday July 28 to Sunday 31.
For part of the festival, Dominick Street will be pedestrianised to allow for a number of concerts featuring some of the finest of Galway talent. The street will be closed to traffic from 8.30pm to 2am Thursday to Sunday.
Music will be live on Dominick St Lower from 8.30pm to 10.30pm Thursday to Sunday with concerts from The Kanyu Tree, whose single ‘Radio’ is getting strong airplay at the moment; folk-rockers The Followers Of Otis, the brilliant indie-rock band Lost Chord, the immensely talented singer-songwriter Elaine Mai; art-rockers Funeral Suits; as well as Sly Digs, The Lakers, and Oddity. There will also be a major special guest for Friday night, yet to be announced.
There will be an outdoor cinema in Fr Burke Park on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights with movies starting at 9.30pm. Films to be show include Grease, Life of Brian, and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Saturday will be Family Fun Day with a children’s sports workshop in Fr Burke Park, including a hurling camp from 10am to 11am with the Liam Mellows Hurling Club and from 11am to 12 noon there will be a rugby clinic with Connacht Rugby team stars.

In the afternoon the park will have entertainment with bouncy castles, an inflatable obstacle course, fuzzball, face painting, balloon racing. These events are free but donations will be accepted with all proceeds going to Jigsaw, the youth outreach charity.
