OPW Minister to meet flood relocation families and open new Claregalway Bridge

Minister for the Office of Public Works, Brian Hayes, is set to meet with families affected by the 2009 flooding crisis during a trip to Claregalway next Tuesday to officially open the new bridge.

The Claregalway bridge was upgraded significantly following the flooding in late 2009. Senator Fidelma Healy Eames has welcomed the completion of the flood relief and prevention works which were carried out to the tune of €8 million.

Regarding the impact the flooding and the subsequent works has had on the local people, Senator Healy Eames said: "The families and farmers in this area will be delighted that the damage caused at end of 2009 is not likely to be repeated thanks to the upgraded bridge.
