O’Donnellan and Joyce concluded the last auction of the summer when it brought down the auctioneer’s gavel for the last time and successfully sold six properties by auction in the Victoria Hotel, Eyre Square, Galway. Anne Harding, the auction co-ordinator for O’Donnellan and Joyce outlined that the July auctions brought an accumulative of sales of properties in excess of €5 million, which is the highest level of sales recorded by any independent Irish auctioneering company in selling properties by public auction.
O’Donnellan and Joyce placed 23 properties up for sale by public auction in July and sold 20 of them in the auction room or immediately afterwards. Anne Harding of O’Donnellan and Joyce added that they were not only delighted with the level of sales but also with the huge attendance of more than 600 people who went to the auction room in the Victoria Hotel to either bid or to watch one of O’Donnellan and Joyce’s auctions which are regarded as among the best in the country.
The last auction was held with a total of seven properties up for auction. The first property auctioned was a two bedroomed apartment at 32 Bridgewater Court, Dominick Street. Bidding commenced at €60,000 and five individuals chased the property intensely with bids increasing in increments of €1,000 until eventually auctioneer Colm O’Donnellan dropped the hammer at a price of €82,000.
The second property to be auctioned was a property at Canteeny, Turloughmore. The property which was in need of major refurbishment attracted limited interest with two bidders chasing the property and was sold for €56,000, while the third property was 17 Dalysfort Rd, Salthill, which comprised an end of terrace house and sold for €242,000.
The fourth property to be auctioned was the Dunmore Arms, Dunmore, the property which comprised an unlicensed premises in need of major refurbishment achieved a price of €50,000. The fifth property to be auctioned was the property at An Port, Rossaveal. The property comprised a ground floor restaurant with an apartment overhead and attracted enormous interest. Bidding commenced at €40,000 and increased in increments of €2,000, with bids coming from all over the room with enormous intensity, and reached €80,000, it was then left to two individuals and went back and forth until eventually it achieved a price of €112,000 when the auctioneer’s hammer fell.
The sixth property was a luxury detached residence at Robin Hill, Corcullen, standing on 1.17 acres and was sold prior to auction to a delighted purchaser achieving a price in the region of the listed AMV of €725,000.
The property at 142 College Road achieved a price of €140,000 and was withdrawn but is currently under active negotiation.
O’Donnellan and Joyce will commence its next auction at the end of September.
