Peugeot's 508 RXH diesel electric hybrid

Peugeot has released details of the new Peugeot 508 RXH, an exclusive new all-road diesel-electric hybrid which will receive its world premiere at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September.

Peugeot tells us that since the launch of the new 508 saloon and SW this spring, the new range has been applauded by journalists and customers for its styling elegance and its build quality. The 508 RXH now further raises the profile of the Peugeot brand and reinforces its technological and environmental lead.

The 508 RXH is equipped with Peugeot's new 2.0 l HDi FAP hybrid4 drive train, a world first when it features in the 3008 Hybrid4 later this year. This diesel-electric hybrid drive unit offers a maximum power of 200 bhp, four-wheel drive capabilities and a maximum torque of 450 Nm.

A zero-emissions-vehicle (ZEV ), the 100 per cent electric mode kicks in to start the vehicle and when driving in town. Once the diesel engine comes alive, the RXH boasts consumption figures of 4.2 l/100km (combined cycle ), with emissions as low as 109g/km of CO2.

The 508 RXH's posture and design immediately place it in the world of luxury all-wheel drive vehicles. Higher and wider than the 508 SW, the RXH sports the same distinctive floating grille as the saloon and SW with added LED lights on each side, visible both at day and night, giving an impression of three vertical 'lion’s' claws.

To reinforce its exclusive character, the 508 RXH benefits from a premium quality interior and upholstery. Richly equipped, standard features include open and go keyless entry, electric front seats, head up display, 18" wheels, panoramic glass roof, dark-tinted acoustic laminated side windows, and latest generation audio and satellite navigation unit.

Following the launch of the 3008 HYbrid4 later this year and the launch of the 508 RXH in spring 2012, Peugeot plans to extend HYbrid4 diesel hybrid technology to other models.
