The local Lake District Hillwalking club has organised a full programme for Saturday July 16, including challenges in aid of Mayo/Roscommon and Galway hospices.
There is a 40k challenge for the experienced hill walker and three guided walks to cover all other tastes. Participants can enjoy full refreshments in Finny hall before and after the walks, and at the half way point on three of the four walks.
The fifth Joyce Country Challenge in aid of the Mayo/Roscommon and Galway hospices will take place on Saturday July 16, meeting at Finney and everyone is welcome.
There are now four categories of walks to suit all abilities: Challenge A walk - For the experienced fit and self sufficient walker 35km 1,936m ascent. Starting at Finny at 6.30 to 7am; B Walk - This is a led walk, of 20km approximately, 1000m ascent, expected duration seven hours. There will be a break for refreshments at Ail Dubh. Sign on takes place between 7am and 8am with start time at 8am; Walk C - Introduction to hillwalking, a new venture added this year, will take in the hill behind Finny Hall, which is 372m high and onward to Kilbride. Expected duration is three to four hours. Sign on between 8am and 10am with a start time of 10am; and a Walk D: Ramble - Will be a led walk for the less experienced walker, 14.5km 281m ascent, three to four hours. Leaving Finny, circling Lough Na Fooey on lowland trail and returning to Finny by road. A break for refreshments at Ail Dubh. Sign on between 8am and 10am and start at 10.30am.
