Galway farmer to join cream of the crop in national competition

A Galway farmer has been nominated to take part in this year’s National Dairy Council Quality Milk Awards competing against 17 other dairy farmers from around the country to bring home the ‘Sam Maguire of Farming’.

A total of 18 dairy farms representing 13 counties have been nominated for the NDC competition which sets out to identify the country’s top dairy farmer. Representing County Galway in the 2011 NDC Quality Milk Awards will be John Fox of Ballinacregg, Oranmore who was nominated by Arrabawn Co-op.

“These 18 dairy farms can already be considered the cream of the crop,” explains Zoë Kavanagh, chief executive of the NDC.

“Many of the co-ops who nominate dairy farmers for this competition select their top farmers each year from a supplier base of literally thousands of farmers.

“Securing a nomination for this award is, in its own right, a recognition of top quality farming by the nominating co-op. All of the farmers nominated should be proud of this achievement - we’re certainly delighted with the standard of entries,” she said.
