Sundance Festival hit to be shown at Fleadh

AMERICAN INDIE FILM Bellflower, a hit at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, will be screened at the Galway Film Fleadh this weekend.

Bellflower, directed by Evan Glodell, tells the story of Woodrow and Aiden who spend their free time building Mad Max-inspired flamethrowers and cars in preparation for a global apocalypse.

When Woodrow meets a charismatic young woman and falls in love, he and Aiden integrate into a new group of friends, setting off on a journey of love and hate, betrayal, infidelity, and extreme violence.

The film has enjoyed praise from US film critics with IFC calling Glodell “a mad scientist of a filmmaker. Synopses can’t convey the beauty of the film’s off-kilter cinematography, the uncanny naturalism of its dialogue and performances, or the complexity of the film’s editing.”

Noel Murray of The Onion AV Club called it “enjoyably badass, with a plot that’s like one long, drunken dare”, while James Rocchi of MSN described Berllflower as “a weird mix of John Hughes and Mad Max...intense and darkly gorgeous.”

Bellflower will be screened in the Omniplex on Saturday at 7.15pm. For more information see www.galwayfilmfleadh.com
