Accessorise it

Are you a fashionista who is struggling with getting used to being a recessionista? Are you eager to get more from your wardrobe now that you have to tighten your belt because of the economic downturn?

If so, consider using accessories as a way of dressing up bargain buys or revitalising last year’s classics. This season they are at the forefront of fashion. Brooches, bags, hats, hosiery and jewellery are adding their signature to women’s clothes.

Chunky wooden beads, bold neck gem pieces and super sized brooches give a modern shape and look to outfits. Pulse Accessories, which recently launched its top trends for winter ‘08, says lace is the fabric of the season. The company uses it in jewellery. It can be layered to add impact and definition.

Cocktail rings have travelled from the runaways to the high street and Pulse Accessories has trays of rocking rings starting at €15.

Statement necklaces with catwalk credentials start at €20, bangles cost €12 and cool baker boy hats as worn by Kate Moss are €12.

New lines include preppy mittens, punk neckerchiefs and jewel coloured tights. Cool berets as worn by Agyneas Deyn add drama and polish. The classic black dress is back and oversized diamonds are its perfect partner.

Colours come mostly from the dark palette with black dominating. However, red is the hot colour of the season. Purple reigns offering a regal twist while the heritage colours of green and brown make their presence felt, also.

If you are a woman of many moods and personalities it is easy to reinvent yourself fashion wise each week. The range of themes and looks is vast and varied. Whether the focus is on extravagant dressing or heritage or structure this season’s top trends can be enhanced and interpreted with a little imagination and flair.
