Camogie ladies to return to winning ways

The Galway senior Camogie team will face Offaly this Saturday in the All-Ireland series at Pearse Stadium at 5pm in a double header with the Galway v Clare All-Ireland hurling championship tie.

The game was originally fixed for Duggan Park, Ballinasloe, but a sensible decision has been made to change the venue, allowing supporters to see both games in what is an attractive double header.

Offaly will travel west with confidence as they had a big win last weekend, beating Dublin by 2-15 to 0-14, while Galway had a disappointing defeat to Cork 2-14 to 0-8 in Pearse Stadium on Sunday - their first in this year’s All Ireland series.

Galway full forward Martina Conroy had a penalty saved just before half time and that was a factor in turning the game Cork’s way, but Cork played the better camogie for long stages.

Galway, with wins over Wexford and Clare, will now be keen to get back to winning ways.

Team manager Noel Finn will know there is more potential in his panel than they have shown against either Cork or indeed in their win against Clare and hopefully, with a good home support, his charges will produce a winning display.

Galway team: S Earner, T Manton, S Cahalan, L Ryan, AM Hayes, T Maher, H Cooney, O Kilkenny, AM Starr, N Kilkenny, B Hanney (Cpt ), N Coen, V Curtin, M.Conroy A Connolly.

Scorers against Cork: Niamh Kilkenny 0-2 (2fs ), Orla Kilkenny 0-2, Therese Maher 0-1 (1f ), Aislinn Connolly 0-1 (1f ) Noreen Coen 0-1, Veronica Curtin 0-1.
