Love your City-Love Galway, an exhibition of art by some 600 Galway children opened this week in The Galway Education Centre, Monivea Road.
Thirteen primary schools participated in Dúchas na Gaillimhe – Galway Civic Trust’s first calendar competition, which was adjudicated by visual artist Aideen Barry.
Participants were invited to colour in six scenes from Galway - The Fisheries Tower, The Cathedral, Mutton Island, Eyre Square, Lynch’s Castle, and The Claddagh.
Participants from fourth class upwards were allowed to interpret their own heritage, and show what aspects of Galway city they love. Artworks range from swans on The Claddagh to sunsets on The Prom.
A number of these works have been turned into a calendar which is also available from the Galway Civic Trust for €5. Funds generated from the sales of the calendars will go towards future projects. The Love your city-Love Galway exhibition is open daily from 9am to 3pm in The Galway Education Centre.
