Cannabis and opium factory accused sent for trial

A 45-year-old man has been sent forward for trial accused of drug dealing offences as well as operating a cannabis and opium factory in the Claregalway area.

Tomasz Urbaniak with an address at Kiltrogue, Claregalway, was brought before Galway District Court on Monday charged with alleged possession of drugs, possession of drugs with intent to sell or supply, and the cultivation of cannabis plants and opium poppy at his address on May 5, 2011.

Garda Darragh Ainsworth gave evidence of serving the book of evidence on the accused man before the court sitting. Inspector Mick Coppinger told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to Urbaniak being sent forward for trial at the Galway Circuit Criminal Court sittings commencing July 12. He then made an application for the accused to be further remanded in custody with the conditions as laid down by the High Court.

Judge Elizabeth MacGrath granted the application ordering Urbaniak to be returned for trial at Galway Circuit Court on July 12 next. Legal aid was also granted.
