Knocknacarra playground qualifies for national makeover

The McGrath’s Field playground in Knocknacarra could be in line for a major upgrade if it can win the Brennan’s Bread Make Over Competition.

However to have any chance of doing so it needs the public’s support and councillors Donal Lyons and Niall McNelis are calling on the people of Knocknacarra to take part in the competition’s on-line vote.

The playground is in competition against 109 other playgrounds in the State for the €15,000 renovation. The renovation will include the repair and painting of play equipment and the purchase of any additional items required to help make it one of the best playgrounds in the country.

“McGrath’s field has been at the heart of the Knocknacarra Community for years,” said Cllr Lyons. “Families benefit from having such an amenity in the thriving area and the sizeable prize fund would go a long way to improving the playground for future families and friends to enjoy.”

To register to vote go to www.brennansbread.ie/playground and click on McGrath’s Field before the deadline of Monday July 4.

Both councillors will also distribute leaflets and posters to encourage people to vote.

“With finances scarce at the moment this is a great opportunity to get the playground that the thousands of children in the area deserve,” said Cllr McNelis. “Local residents, businesses, committees, and sports groups are being asked to get involved to help drive votes so as it can win
