THE HUGELY talented Daithi O Dronaí will be among the acts taking part in this year’s Body & Soul Festival 2011 in Ballinlough Castle, Co Westmeath, on June 18 and 19.
Originally from Clare and now based in Galway, Daithi Ó Dronaí has won much praise for his imaginative and unorthodox approach to violin playing.
His sound is a mix of indie pop, ambient, and Irish traditional music. He plays entirely solo with no pre-recorded tracks. Instead he creates layers of sound, counter melodies, percussion (such as by tapping his violin as a drumbeat ), and accompaniment through the use of a loop pedal.
Earlier this year he released the impressive debut EP Embrace. The EP is available on daithimusic.bandcamp.com for €5.
Also playing Body & Soul this year are Alex Wilner (aka The Field ), Fat Freddy’s Drop, Toro Y Moi, Lamb, Mount Kimbie, Holy F**k, The Correspondents, Arborea, Brandt Brauer Frick, Cloud Castle Lake, Lisa O’Neill, Black Dog, Plaid, and Joris Voornwill.
