Notes for the season

Bastyan — a treasure trove of pieces

New to Brown Thomas Galway this week, sleek label Bastyan has a stunning collection. A favourite of fashion stylist Lisa Fitzpatrick (who always walks that sexy yet sophisticated line to perfection ), the pieces translate effortlessly from work to play.

Founder and designer Tonia Bastyan first rose to prominence in the 1990s as one half of the highly successful Press & Bastyan, going on to carve a niche as a successful independent designer. The collection is equal parts cutting edge and artistic flair. The colour palettes are perfect for matching many of the items you have in your wardrobe already, including black, camel, ice grey, and the most amazing sea foam green. My favourite item and it was like Sophie’s Choice all over again to choose only one — was the butter soft leather nude skirt. Another standout in this collection is the teal blue eyelet lace draped top. Most pieces work beautifully with good dark skinny denim, and we found JBrands to be the perfect denim match for this collection.

“The overall vision of Bastyan is to present its customer with a well edited offering of fashion solutions that are original, excellently produced, and competitively priced,” according to Tonia Bastyan. She is “striving to create a range of very individual pieces that don’t necessarily sit as a collection to coordinate, but are a treasure trove of pieces”. The Bastyan design ethic has a unique way of adding elegance to daytime dressing while giving even the most casual outfit a chic edge. With this in mind it is easy to shop the collection and find the perfect wow pieces to add to your basics. The inky blue blazer with black leather trim is a must have for anyone’s wardrobe, whether you wear it with the tuxedo trousers in the range or not. Words cannot describe the perfection of the colours; it’s more about the tones anyway.

In cosmetics news, exclusive to Brown Thomas, Estée Lauder has launched its Idealist range, and for anyone looking to amp up their skincare regime, the search is over. The serum, applied in the morning, works under your moisturiser to even out your complexion, and it instantly (we adore instant! ) reduces the appearance of redness and skin discolorations, working hard all day under your moisturiser and foundation. The eye cream is also on another level. It comes with a ceramic tip to cool and soothe any puffiness or inflammation, and works in the same way as the serum, reducing the appearance of fine lines and discolorations. It also cleverly comes in two shades that will suit all ethnicities. This is one of those products that can easily (and hygienically ) be carried around in your bag for touch-ups whenever necessary. Extra points if you are already using Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair.
