Killanin v Kilkerrin/Clonberne Sunday 5pm, Pearse Stadium

Killanin look like a senior team in trouble. They are pointless after three games in the league and look like hot candidates to be demoted from 1B. While they scored five goals against Carraroe in their first round defeat, they conceded 1-17.

They are a young side and, in Patrick Sweeney, Stephen Kavanagh, Niall Walsh and Cathal Sweeney, they have some players with potential. Damien Carter and Paul Maloney also caught the eye in that defeat. However they lack a few experienced men around the pitch to guide them through troubled water.

The Killanin lads should have plenty of motivation this Sunday. When the sides met in the league last month in Clonberne, they took an awful pasting and were beaten by 4-14 to 0-7.

Killkerrin are managed this season by former St Jarlath’s and Galway star John Divilly and he has racked up a lot of experience in club and college management in the past few years so they will be a well-organised outfit.

They were beaten by Tuam Stars in the first round when they fielded 10 of last year’s u-21 B county winning side. They will look to the likes of current county minor Shane Walsh and 2007 All-Ireland winning minor Jonathan Ryan to provide the match-winning scores and the inspirational Enda Daly to provide the power out the field.

I don’t expect there to be that much between them and, at 7/4, Killanin will have their backers. However on recent form and, if the likes of Brendan Ryan and Damien Dunleavy are back from injury, Divilly’s boys can advance.

Silke’s call: Kilkerrin/Clonberne
