The ambitious plans to completely redevelop Galway Harbour have taken a step closer to reality following Transport Minister Leo Varadkar giving his approval for the plans to seek planning permission.
The Minister gave his approval last week during a visit to Galway which took in meetings with Galway Airport, the Galway chamber of Commerce, and the Galway Harbour Board.
According to Fine Gael Galway West TD Brian Walsh, who invited Minister Varadkar to come to Galway, the Minister was “very impressed by and very encouraged by the plans and was happy to support the project”.
Dep Walsh also said that should the proposed redevelopment of the harbour need funding, the Minister Varadkar would be open to providing it.
“No State funding may be required as the Galway Harbour board has assets,” Dep Walsh told the Galway Advertiser, “but I would be confident that his approval for it to go towards planning and this enthusiasm for the project is a signal that if required, he will step up to the mark.”
