Final year students on the BA fine art degree at GMIT Cluain Mhuire will present their third year ceramic undergraduate exhibition in Galway city this month. Called Crank It Up, the exhibition will run from May 19 to 24. The exhibition can be seen from 11.30am to 6pm, and is closed on Sunday.
The exhibition will open today (Thursday ) at 6pm in the Cornstore, Middle Street, Galway. Susan Caffrey, artist and assistant lecturer and graduate of GMIT and the University of Wales Institute Cardiff, will officially open the exhibition. This space has been provided by Space Invaders. Other sponsors include the Dáil Bar and GMIT.
The ceramic department in GMIT places a great emphasis on the fine art aspects of students’ work as well as exploring and pushing the boundaries of the ceramic medium. This student exhibition is a reflection of that, it is the outcome of a year’s journey, research, and exploration into a wide range of concepts and possibilities through clay. It presents the formation and the development of an artist’s practice, albeit emerging, it demonstrates the process and the visual language students have gained in their ongoing visual art practice. All are welcome.
