Fine Gael to dominate county mayor posts

Former PD and now Fine Gael councillor, Michael Mogie Maher, will be elected as the next Mayor of County Galway in June.

Under the current council pact two Fine Gaelers and an Independent councillor will hold the position of Mayor of County Galway for the remaining three years of the present council’s term.

Cllr Maher will hold the post for 2011-12 and his party colleague Bridie Willers will take the deputy mayoralty. Independent Connemara candidate Tom Welby will hold the position in 2012-13, with Fine Gael’s Peter Roche acting as deputy mayor.

For the 2013-14 term, in the run up to the 2014 Local Elections, the mayoralty will be held by Fine Gael’s Cllr Liam Carroll, with party colleague Eileen Mannion acting as deputy mayor.
