Clifden to host major sean nós dance show

SEAN NÓS dancing has enjoyed a revival these last few years and more people than ever are looking to learn, watch, and/or find out about this looser, freer, form of Irish dance.

The Cunningham family from Cashel are among those keeping the sean nós tradition alive and they will be sharing it with the public at two shows, entitled Fuaim na Chuinneagainnaí, this month.

Fuaim na Chuinneagainnaí will be staged in The Station House Theatre, Clifden, this Saturday at 8pm and on Saturday 22 at 8pm. It will also be in the Town Hall, Claremorris, on Friday November 14 at 8pm.

The show is aimed at displaying this tradition and the evolution up to modern step dancing. It is a vibrant show consisting of six musicians, six dancers and three singers. The artists involved all come from a background steeped in musical tradition.

The show blends the old and the new; the sean nós dancing contrasted against the modern step dancing, the sean nós songs contrasted against the English songs and ballads, and the regional styles in music blended together.

The line up is The Cunningham family, who have won the All Ireland sean-nos dancing competitions, and musicians and singers Dessie O’Halloran, Meaití Jo Sheamuis Ó Flaihearta, Nan Tom Tamín, Tommy Doherty, Fiachra O’Regan, Louise McKenna, Joe Gibson, Sabhbh Ní Fhlaihearta, Liam Stapleton, The Sheridans, and Amy Coyne.
