Gardaí warn of bogus callers

Gardaí are warning householders to check the credentials of callers following reports of bogus callers attempting to gain access to homes.

Gardaí have received reports of bogus callers claiming to be from the ESB, Galway City Council, and even the Garda Síochána. Householders are advised to ask for identification before admitting any cold callers to their homes, and report any callers who cannot produce ID to their local Garda station.

The call follows an incident in Salthill earlier this week. A man was spotted loitering outside a house in Emerson Court on Monday at around 2pm. When confronted, the man said he lived in the house and wanted to check the taps.

This man is described as white and approximately 22 years old, of thin build with black hair. He wore blue trousers and a blue pullover, and was clean shaven. He spoke with an Irish accent and was very convincing. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who saw this man in the area on Monday afternoon to contact Salthill Garda Station at (091 ) 514720.
