JM SYNGE is best known as a playwright but he was also a keen photographer and his photos are currently on exhibition in the Áras Éanna Arts Centre on Inis Oírr.
During his many visits to the Aran Islands from 1898 onwards, Synge took many photos with his second-hand camera and these images detail life on the islands during his time there. The exhibition will run throughout May.
Áras Éanna has a busy programme of events for the summer including the Tír exhibition by artists from the Connemara Gaeltacht, the Hebrides, and Wales. It will run throughout July and August in Áras Éanna and the Town Hall Theatre.
There will also be concerts with Brian Kennedy, who plays there this Sunday at 8pm; Henry McCullough, who was a member of Paul McCartney’s Wings; Paddy Keenan; and Michelle Burke.
