Cairde Ciarrai reflects on another successful year’

The Galway Branch of Cairde Chiarrai, the Kerry People’s Association in Galway, recently held its annual general meeting. It has been another successful year for the organisation, which was reflected in the report of the outgoing chairman.

The group’s Jubilee Book was launched on March 26 as part of its silver jubilee celebrations. The dinner dance to honour the landmark was a resounding success, attracting 200 patrons to the Salthill Hotel. The legendary broadcaster Micheal O’Muircheartaigh was the special guest for the evening and had the privilege of launching the commemoration book. Also in attendance were Michael Crowe, the Mayor of Galway, and Daire O’Cinneide from Raidio na Gaeltachta.

During the 25 years of Cairde Chiarrai, the association has been actively involved in fundraising for local charities and striving to make Galway a better place to live. This year was no different, and the annual table quiz in January raised €4,400 for Ability West.

The group also elected its officers for the coming year with the following roles being filled; President: Tom Walsh, Ballymoneen; Chairperson: Michele Coghlan, Barna; Vice-chairperson: Sean O’Leidhinn, The Rise, Knocknacarra; Secretary: Tony Barrett, Threadneedle Road; Treasurer: Eamon Keogh, Briarhill; PRO: Donal O’Donoghue, Burrenview Heights.
