Injury blow for Padraig Joyce

Former Galway captain Padraig Joyce’s chance of starting the Connacht championship semi-final against Mayo in eight weeks’ time has taken a blow.

The three times All Star is currently in a cast after suffering a stress fracture to his ankle.

The injury showed up after training last weekend and Joyce is expected to be in cast for the next few weeks. Joyce, who recently turned 34, came back from injury for the last few games of the NFL and his guile, experience and flawless left-footed free-taking were key factors in Galway beating Armagh away and forcing a draw with Dublin.

Joyce is expected to be out of action for the next four weeks at least, and it could be expecting too much for him to be fit for the clash with Mayo - who play London in the first round in Castlebar on June 26.
