Cavan football has real pedigree

Many younger GAA fans may not realise that Cavan used to be a hugely successful football county, and the strongest in Ulster by far.

They have won the most Ulster football titles in the province and have 39 titles (their last was in 1997 ) on their roll of honour.

To put that number of titles in context; Armagh have 14, Monaghan and Tyrone have 13 each and Down have 12. Cavan have won more Ulster provincial titles than Monaghan, Tyrone and Down combined.

Cavan have also won the senior All-Ireland on five occasions and their last success at that grade was in 1952. The county has not won an All-Ireland football title since and the hype in the county over the past two weeks is huge.

They expect to break that 59-years famine on Sunday and that is why they are expecting to bring a crowd of between 15,000 and 20,000 supporters to the game.
