Oughterard GAA club are pioneering a new form of racing as part of their annual Lá na gClub which takes place on Sunday May 8.
While horses and greyhounds may dominate the racing spectrum, Oughterard are hoping for similar success with their local sheep.
Farmers are busy preparing their flocks for action and will be looking for value from the bookmakers present. The first sheep in a seven-race card are at the post at 1pm.
Oughterard’s Lá na gClub will take place on Sunday week at Corribdale. As well as sheep racing, there promises to something for everyone of all ages. The day kicks off at 12 noon with a football blitz for the under-six to under-12 players. There will also be a potato picking, penalty shootouts, a barbecue, a magician, and lots of stalls with the finest of local produce.
Entry is free and everyone is welcome to go along and enjoy the fun. For more information contact Maria on 087-6163584.
