De Dannan to play Inishbofin Community Arts Festival

DE DANNAN will play the opening night of the Inishbofin Community Arts Festival 2011, kick starting a weekend of music, dance, storytelling, and other events.

The festival begins on Friday May 6 at 11pm with De Dannan at the Inishbofin Community Centre. The line up will feature founding members Alec Finn and Johnny ‘Ringo’ McDonagh, along with Eleanor Shanley, Mick Conneely, Derek Hickey and Brian McGrath. Tickets are €15.

Saturday 7 will be headlined by Irish singer-songwriter Gemma Hayes and her band in the community centre at 10pm. Gemma’s new album is out in May, and it will combine prog rock, folk, and electronica. It will also feature Bell X1’s Paul Noonan and singer-songwriter Ann Scott. Tickets are €15.

Inishbofin man Peadar King will launch his new album The Shadowlands in the Inishbofin community centre on Sunday 8 at 10pm. His music mixes Irish trad with folk and roots music and jazz. Tickets are €10.

As well as the concerts there will be dance workshops with sean nós dancing champion Emma O’Sullivan; percussion workshop with Tommy Hayes; storytelling with Rab Swannock Fulton; a performance of Martin McDonagh’s The Lonesome West; the Mad Science workshops and shows for children; film screenings; a bog oak exhibition with Derry Houlihan; bone carving jewellery workshop with Aoife McGough; and an archaeological walk with Michael Gibbons and a coastal walk with Dr David McGrath. On Sunday 8 there will be a craft market at the community centre.
