Two exhibitions at Galway Arts Centre

TWO DIFFERENT exhibitions - Strangely Familiar Shades of Gray and Unfolding Collections - will open in the Galway Arts Centre this Saturday.

Strangely Familiar Shades of Gray, a solo exhibition of work by Mary Ruth Walsh, plays on Walsh’s imagined recreations of Eileen Grey’s houses Tempe a Pialle and E1027. The work engages with the creativity of Grey’s furniture, a marvel of malleable functionality where every piece was inventively designed to move in some way.

The exhibition opens on Saturday at 6pm in Gallery 1 and continues until Friday May 20.

Unfolding Collections opens on the same night in Gallery 2. This exhibition is a selection of works from the collections of Russell Hart, Isabel Nolan, Aoibheann MacNamara, Sinéad Ní Mhaonaigh and Caoimhín MacGiolla Léith.

The focus of the exhibition is to reveal what people have hidden in their homes and how art collecting is something that is not something only multi-millionaires do. Unfolding Collections will host a discussion on collecting and connections to artworks at 4pm on Saturday. The talk will be chaired by Austin Ivers, artist, GMIT lecturer, and co-founder of 126 gallery.

All are welcome to the exhibitions.
