JOLT, a new theatre initiative, will see three new theatre companies present three very different, and potentially exciting new shows, at the Town Hall Theatre studio this May.
This new venture is designed to encourage a more experimental approach to theatre and will involve audience feedback and interaction with the theatre companies.
JOLT launches this Tuesday in the Town Hall bar at 6pm and the opening production Sleep Skips My Heart runs from Wednesday 4 to Saturday 7. It tells the wonderfully weird tale of Elliot Sweetman, a young boy born into the 1990s with a disorder that pushes him into sleep whenever he feels sad or happy and it is up to his friend Lily Mahony to try to keep him awake.
From Wednesday 11 to Saturday 14, Waterdonkey will present The Very Best of John Lennon, which looks at Lennon’s significance as a cultural icon and examines aspects of his life in a non-narrative form.
Dodo Theatre will present a new piece called The Pump from Wednesday 18 to Saturday 21. The Pump tells the story of a couple who transcend time and body to examine their lives and discover the secrets of their souls. This will be a physical, abstract, performance with a live score.
On Friday 27 and Saturday 28 JOLT will presents two evenings of ‘Creative Quickies’ where companies from around the city and county will perform 10 minute extracts of work in development and invite audience feedback.
The Fridays of each run will also give the public a chance to meet the makers during the ‘Talk Back Sessions’ after the performance and on Saturday there will be live music and craic in the Town Hall bar to enjoy after the shows.
Tickets for the first three weeks of performance are €10/8. A pass to all three shows is €21. Tickets for ‘Creative Quickies’ are €5. All can be purchased from Town Hall Theatre box office or by phoning 091 - 569777.
