Despite the perilous economic state of the country, the Cúirt International Festival of Literature proved recession proof, experiencing a major boost in audience attendances this year.
According to programme director Dani Gill the 2011 festival enjoyed a 25 per cent increase in audience attendances.
“This is a phenomenal achievement given the current economic climate,” said Ms Gill. “It was a primary goal this year to try to build audiences and I am delighted that we have not only achieved our target but we have exceeded the hoped increase and have actually doubled or trebled in some cases, day time event attendance.”
