NOCTÚ, a new dance show, which promises to push the boundaries of the Irish dance tradition, is coming to The Black Box Theatre on Saturday April 30 at 8pm.
The show is choreographed and directed by Breandán de Gallaí, who is best known as the Riverdance principal dancer who took over from Michael Flatley. In his early career he studied ballet, jazz, modern, and tap dancing. He regularly presents programmes for RTÉ and TG4 and is an external examiner for the MA in Irish dance performance in the University of Limerick.
Noctú, the Irish word meaning to bare or reveal all, tells the story of Irish dance from the viewpoint of the dancer using movement, narrative, parody, comedy, and pathos.
Noctú is also the subject of a new RTÉ television series, Dance Off, which will be broadcast in the summer. Dance Off will look at the search to bring the world’s best Irish dancers together for Noctú, from auditions and boot camp, to the creative development and rehearsal. The series comes to a climax when 13 Irish dancers from Ireland, Scotland, England, Australia, Canada, and Hungary take to the stage for the premiere.
Tickets are available from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777 and www.tht.ie
