Still no report on City Hall explosion

Almost a year on from a freak explosion at City Hall there is still no final report from city officials, or the Health and Safety Authority.

Councillor Pádraig Conneely pointed out that €400,000 in insurance settlements had been paid out yet there was no conclusive report: “Is there some kind of cover up,” he said. “Lives could have been lost”.

Acting city manager Joe O’Neill confirmed the building was safe. “This building is safe at the moment. I would not have staff working in the building, or hold council meetings here if the building was not safe,” he said.

However Mr O’Neill also confirmed that his report had not yet been finished, nor has there been a final report from the Health and Safety Authority.

He said: “The Health and Safety Authority will give us no indication as to their report.”
