The Galway Arts Festival is celebrating 21 years of its Friends of the Festival scheme, which is an important source of revenue for the two week event.
Over the course of the last two decades the scheme has developed to a point where it is now a major contributor to the festival. In 2010, 160,000 people attended the festival with more than 50 per cent being visitors to Galway.
“The continuing support of those who participate in the Friends of the Festival scheme has always been very important in helping the festival bring world class performance to the city and county and we very much appreciate this ongoing support,” said John Crumlish, managing director of the Galway Arts Festival.
“The Friends of the Festival scheme is as important to us now as it was 21 years ago,” said festival artistic director Paul Fahy. “Our Friends Scheme has helped us bridge the gap between our other income sources and what funding we need to make the festival happen.”
