Flower power

Feminine florals are one of the key looks for summer, according to Anthony Ryan’s spring/summer fashion show.

Slip into a floral printed dress and embrace the coming season with aplomb. Take a cue from the international catwalks and work a variety of prints into your wardrobe from the exotic to the demure.

This is easy dressing at its best and can be adapted to suit all figure types and to disguise any perceived imperfections. Key brands are Vila (50 per cent off currently ), Gina Bacconi and Daniella.

Everything this season screams optimism and cheer. Bright colours exploded onto the catwalk. Forget old rules, mix and match because everything goes.

Citrus shades with bold prints or appliqué embroidery are a popular trend. Strong vibrant colours are a must this season. Neon shades abound. Colour blocking is important. Get the look with brands such as Mascara, Gina Bacconi, Renata, and Danielle. If embracing a riot of colours is not your style, incorporate just a hint of it throught the skilful use of accessories.

At the other end of the spectrum are the pretty pastels. Mints and delicate blues, pinks and greens offer a quiet, calmer approach to summer style.

Monochrome mania continues. Black and white is always elegant, sophisticated and timeless. Pure white alone is another big colour this winter. It is included in numerous looks from shirts to trousers and dresses. Nude, rose pink, navy and mustard are other colours which pop up over and over again. Flashes of orange, electric blue and acid yellow add punch to everyday dressing.

Soft, easy dressing, layered up to give a carefree, dreamy look is the look of the season, ideal for lounging about on those lazy summer days. Sunlight is a brand to watch out for and is available on Ryan’s fashion floor.

Stripes are everywhere this season - horizontal, diagonal, lateral - and are worn, often together, or for the less daring alone as a statement piece.

Styles from the pen of Kate Cooper, ideal for Holy Communions, confirmations, weddings or daytime occasions, come in bright vibrant colours of fuchsia and magentas. Luxurious brocade fabrics give a rich and regal texture.

Wide legged trousers are major players this season. Worn high waisted, which helps elongate the body, and teamed with wedges they are ideal smart casual options. Cropped trousers, knits and denims (shirts and jeans ) are also winners.

Casual separates from Dolce Vita offer great one-off pieces which can also be easily mixed and matched. Soft knits fromYa Ya and short waisted fitted leather jackets - one of the key looks this season - are effortlly chic.

Classic tailored jackets in checks or stripes expertly co-ordinated with tailored trousers and shirts create a stylish look. Gerry Weber uses bright colour blocks as well as soft coral pinks in his range

Polka dots are making a comeback and appear in lots of outfits from dresses to raincoats. Short coats, manufactured from lightweight fabrics, provide stylish cover from the rain. The trench coat continues to be a wise choice and comes in various colours and styles.
